I’m excited to announce the release of ANSYS 17.2, the latest step in our unwavering commitment to push the boundaries of engineering simulation technology, so you can solve your most difficult product development challenges faster and more cost-effectively. No one can afford to wait in today’s fast-paced business environment, and our frequent release program ensures that you have the latest simulation solutions at your fingertips as soon as possible. Our goal is to deliver the best simulation tools on the planet when you need them, which is always now, not six months from now. So let’s cut to the chase. ANSYS 17.2 delivers many new advances across the portfolio, but here are a few of my favorites.
Enhanced Workflow for Antenna Design
To make antenna design and placement easier than ever, we’ve streamlined the interface between ANSYS HFSS and ANSYS HFSS SBR+ (formerly Savant). This smoother interface accelerates your workflow: Antenna designs created in HFSS can now be easily imported into the HFSS SBR+ advanced shooting and bouncing ray solver to validate antenna design and placement, so you can be sure you have an optimized antenna system for your wireless communication needs.
Thermal Analysis for Upfront Electric Machine and Electromechanical Design
Speaking of improved interfaces, you can now transfer data more quickly and efficiently between ANSYS Maxwell and ANSYS Icepak so electrical machine designers can evaluate cooling strategies faster. It works like this: The ANSYS RMxprt electrical machine synthesis tool in Maxwell now automatically outputs the geometry and temperature characteristics of materials used in the design, so you no longer have to manually add temperatures before running Icepak. The convenience and time savings will greatly improve your experience with electric machine design.
Fast, Accurate ANSYS Combustion Modeling Now Compatible with GT-SUITE
ANSYS Chemkin-Pro, the gold standard for simulating complex chemical reactions for combustion systems, now adds plug-in compatibility with Gamma Technologies’ GT-SUITE 2016. Through Chemkin-Pro, GT-SUITE users gain access to detailed, validated reaction mechanisms in the ANSYS Model Fuel Library. They will be able to use this library as an alternative to the standard GT-SUITE models, when optimizing their internal combustion engines for fuel effects, efficiency, knocking and emissions.
Model-Based Software Development for Mission- and Safety-Critical Applications
We’ve improved our Model-Based Software Development (MBSD) technologies to keep up with increasing demands and certification standards for mission- and safety-critical applications in the automotive, railway, aerospace and energy industries. ANSYS 17.2 includes a complete MBSD workflow, encompassing software requirements, software design, code generation, software testing and verification. It now supports Ada certified code generation (in addition to C code) to meet DO-178C, IEC 61508, EN 50128 and ISO 26262 requirements. ANSYS 17.2 also includes a new ANSYS SCADE Test Environment that features automated testing of embedded displays, enhanced support of hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing with National Instruments Veristand, improved design import capabilities with AUTOSAR system and improved links with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS and Dassault Systèmes Reqtify.
ANSYS AIM Extended for Upfront Thermal Management and Improved Collaboration
By doing engineering simulation upfront, you can improve your productivity by making informed decisions earlier in a product’s design cycle, minimizing the need for rework and redesign later in the process. ANSYS AIM enables upfront simulation for every engineer by providing easy-to-use, intuitive, guided workflows, along with accurate simulation results and customization, in a complete simulation tool covering a broad range of physics. The latest release enhances upfront simulation for thermal management, enables easier collaboration between designer and analyst and lets Japanese engineers perform upfront simulation in their own language.
ANSYS Workbench — One Platform Accelerating the Pace of Innovation
The ANSYS Workbench platform continues to unify the broad portfolio of ANSYS simulation technologies and tightly integrates the new capabilities available in this release. This allows simulation experts across domains to work more seamlessly together and also enables expert and non-expert users to apply simulation coherently from concept to detailed design.
In addition, Workbench adds new features for increasing customization and integration, allowing for tailor-made workflows across the enterprise, integration with other engineering platforms and tools, as well as secure data management. This enables simulation to adapt to our customers’ individual processes and cross-functional collaboration, significantly reducing development costs and time to market.
These are just a few highlights of the enhancements available in ANSYS 17.2; many more improvements have been made throughout our product portfolio. We’re always working to continually enhance our engineering simulation software to make engineering and design of new products easier for you. In the coming weeks, several of our R&D leaders will be sharing more details about these capabilities and the engineering challenges they’ve addressed. While you are enjoying these new features of ANSYS 17.2, we’ll keep working on ANSYS 18.0!
